3 Ways To Get The Monkeys Off Your Back And Clear The Way To Focus On Your Goals

When the new year starts there’s this excitement in the air. Okay, it’s probably the winter breeze but go along with me here. 😁

You pump yourself up because this is the year you’re going to focus on your goals and crush them. You’re not messin’ around anymore. It’s time to get serious!

You even go so far as to take extra time with your goals, making sure each one starts with intention and ends with impact.

Then a couple of months go by and you realize you are not as focused on your goals as you set out to be at the beginning of the year. You suddenly have the ‘some day’ attitude. Or you’re waiting to start when the ‘time is right’ but then there never really is a right time, right?

Those are the monkeys on your back that will keep you from meeting your goals. If you’re struggling to focus on your goals, the following tips may be helpful to you.

How To Focus On Your Goals

If you feel the year slipping away and want to give up, take a few minutes to reset your mindset. Here is what I do when faced with “goal give up.”

1. Sit quietly  – not at your desk – and imagine you are back in that space where the year has not yet started. The time when you were envisioning what 2023 would look like. Get back into that headspace, where everything was possible.

2. Read your goals, even out loud if you don’t feel too weird about it. Make sure they still feel right. If not, make the tweaks you need.

3. Get gritty with your schedule. Look at how you spend your time and ensure you are focusing on what’s most essential to move you forward. If not, either delegate, push off, or renegotiate with whoever is requesting and ask them (especially if it’s your boss), what should be dropped from your priorities to take on the new projects/ requests.

From here, keep monitoring. It takes constant vigilance to protect time and energy to focus on your goals.

Wrapping Up

In conclusion, learning to remove the monkeys off our backs and focus on our goals is essential for personal growth and success. By identifying and addressing the distractions and negative influences in our lives, we can create a clear path toward achieving our ambitions. It is important to prioritize our time and energy, avoiding unnecessary stress and burdens that hinder progress.

By setting realistic goals, breaking them down into manageable steps, and staying committed to self-discipline, we can overcome the obstacles that hold us back from reaching our full potential. Let’s take control of our lives, let go of the monkeys weighing us down, and embrace a future filled with purpose and accomplishment.
